I am the Director of the Harrison Institute, a UK charity dedicated to mammal taxonomy and community-led conservation. Over the years, my work has spanned a wide range of projects, including research of Arabian mammal, studies of bats from Southeast Asia and the Indian subcontinent, to developing an MSc course in environmental protection and biodiversity conservation at three universities in Myanmar.
My current focus is on building research capacity through training, co-supervising, and mentoring students and early-career biodiversity scientists in Africa and Asia. Working with these colleagues, we promote collections-based research to discover and describe tropical biodiversity—particularly mammals and birds, including species new to science. Our most recent PhD student is from Cameroon where she is studying the bat fauna of Lobéké National Park.
