Stories of biodiversity change across Africa

Find out how you can get involved:

While there is a lack of policy-relevant biodiversity data for sub-Saharan Africa, there is not a lack of knowledge about the region’s biodiversity and how it is influenced by human activities. This knowledge is held by diverse people working across the region’s changing landscapes—researchers, field rangers, tour guides, museum curators, etc. We engaged 200 of these experts in an elicitation process to translate their knowledge into data.

Here you can go from story to story on google earth to see and learn from the contributing experts on how human activities in the regions where they work are impacting biodiversity, as well as how that may influence human well-being. You can also explore and download the co-produced expert data on how human activities are impacting African biodiversity intactness here and the resulting map here.
